Lansdale, Pa—May 19, 2016—North Penn Water Authority (NPWA) is proud to announce that Executive Director, Anthony J. Bellitto, Jr., was a recipient of the 2016 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence last month in Harrisburg. On April 13, 2016 Governor Tom Wolf recognized eight municipalities and local government officials for their dedication and commitment to strengthen their communities and better serve their residents. Eight government officials and nine communities from across the commonwealth received awards honoring their service as part of the 20th Annual Governor’s Awards for Local Government Excellence. DCED’s Center for Local Government Services sponsors Local Government Day annually to honor local governments and officials who serve their communities and improve quality of life.
On May 11, Bellitto was given a Special Recognition Award by the Pennsylvania Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) at their annual meeting. Bellitto was recognized for his high ideals of professional and ethical conduct, his commitment to the development of the best technologies to provide potable drinking water to communities in Southeastern Pennsylvania, and his volunteer work with Water for People, an international nonprofit organization that helps provide people in developing countries with the tools and resources they need to obtain and maintain a potable water supply.
Bellitto has been involved with the technical and management capacities in the water industry for 31 years, in New York City where he started his career and in Bucks and Montgomery Counties in Pennsylvania. He has been Executive Director of NPWA since 1998 and is a Licensed Professional Engineer, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Engineering from Manhattan College in New York City.
“On behalf of the entire board of directors, I want to congratulate Tony on both of these honorable achievements,” said Robert Fisher, chairman of the Board of Directors for North Penn Water Authority. “I have worked with Tony for 11 years and his dedication to providing the safest, most reliable and affordable water to the customers of NPWA has always been his priority. We are proud to work alongside someone so dedicated and we are pleased that he has been recognized with such a great honor from the Governor and from his peers at AWWA.”
Established in 1965, North Penn Water Authority (NPWA) is a municipally owned, nonprofit Authority with a dedicated, professional workforce committed to providing the community with a safe, reliable, and economical water supply. Water supplied to their customers comes from both a surface water supply that is treated at the state of the art Forest Park Water Treatment Plant (FPWTP) and from 17 groundwater wells located throughout the service area. To provide the highest quality water, the Authority has in place a main replacement program and performs annual flushing of its 567 miles of water main which serves their 33,500 customers. NPWA also owns and maintains all fire hydrants in the service area to ensure hydrants are in working order in case of fire emergencies. NPWA employees, many of whom are NPWA customers themselves, take pride in being able to provide this service to the community. For more information, please visit www.npwa.org or call 215-855-3617.
